Alright, people! Listen up! Enough licking our wounds and crying about the election! It’s time to roll up our sleeves and get busy doing the hard work of reinventing the Democratic party! It’s time to send a message to America that says “We hear you loud and clear! You want — nay, you demand — change! And, by golly, that’s what we’re gonna give you!”
OK, then, let’s do this! Now, first off, we need to —

Oh, FERFUCKSAKES, are you KIDDING ME?
WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU PEOPLE THINKING?
Look, I don’t have anything personal against Nancy Pelosi … but do you not get the fact that we just got our asses handed to us? And don’t start telling me about the “popular vote”; all three branches of government are about to turn blood red while there’s a maniac at the helm. That is a systemic failure of the Democratic party no matter how you choose to analyze or rationalize it.
A huge faction of this country just elected a completely unqualified lunatic simply because they were fed up with “politics as usual.” And, yes, that’s a really stupid reason to destroy the very same country in which you and your loved ones live … but fed-up, frustrated people do really stupid things … and no matter how sound is your logic or how reasonable is your argument or how qualified is your candidate, you, the Democratic party, have just learned that The People want something different.
I think Hillary Clinton would have made an incredible president, and you can count me among those who are devastated that Trump defeated her. But, as I said in a previous post while referencing my support for Bernie Sanders:
“I implored anyone who would listen to me during primary season to please realize that, as qualified as Hillary is … she is a political liability by virtue of the fact that she is saddled with the baggage of two decades’-worth of the Right’s laser-focused, white-hot hate for the Clintons, and she is trapped in an ever-reverberating echo-chamber of negative opinion that the well-established anti-Clinton movement has cranked up to 11 for the past 20 years.”
Let that sink in, OK? Because some of you are now feeling the urge to yell at me about how unfair it is that the public’s perception of Hillary Clinton is so skewed from reality, and how egregious it is that the Right has yet again successfully smeared into defeat someone who so clearly was the better choice to lead the country … but guess what? There’s no need for you to tell me that, because I agree with you. Guess what else? It doesn’t matter. A huge swath of the electorate isn’t casting a vote based on facts; it’s casting a vote based on perception … and we can quibble about whether or not that’s a smart thing to do (spoiler: it isn’t), but all the quibbling in the world won’t change the unmistakable reality that, until or unless the Democratic leadership starts offering up something that the uninformed masses can reasonably perceive as being the change they seek, our party will continue to lose.
Nancy Pelosi is yet another “establishment” Democrat whom the Right has spent years vilifying. Yes, I know she’s highly qualified. Yes, I know she’s done amazing things and is capable of doing more. Yes, I know that, on paper, in a world based on logic and reason, there may very well be little justification for replacing her. Guess what? WE NO LONGER LIVE IN A WORLD BASED ON LOGIC AND REASON! Our next president spends his time waging Twitter wars against sketch-comedy shows and is quickly filling his administration with a Monster’s Ball-like roster of horrible people, and you’re going to sit there on the Hill and keep doing the same thing that got us into this mess?? GAAAAHHH!!!
Bernie Sanders? Wasted opportunity.
Tim Ryan? Wasted opportunity.
Don’t believe me? Then take it from Karl Rove:
Congrats to House Dems for reelecting Nancy Pelosi! Helps advance GOP cause enormously. Ellison for DNC chair next please!

When Karl fucking Rove is happy with what you’re doing, you can rest assured that you’re doing it wrong.
